For those who have never seen this interactive site Girlpower, I think it best exposes the fraud perpetuated upon all of us by these repetitive covers of young women made to look unnatural - often by Photoshop - the way that the arbiters of mass culture think that they should appear. I wonder as to how many young women have starved themselves to match magazine cover imagery of women who, in fact, never existed. The newly energized green movement should certainly mark these covers “un-green,” fetishizing as they do the commercialized and inorganic.
Kudos to the Swedish government for putting this online. Perhaps high schools around the United States and other countries could show this in classrooms so students have a sense of how certain manipulations occur.
