This used to be a sniper's paradise. It is an important crossroads -- between Ilidza and Sarajevo, and Ilidza and Lukavica. The latter was the road that Serbs fleeing the new Bosnian Government would take, and the former the road that Bosnians returning to their homes in Ilidza would use.

For many, like these women from Ilidza, the end of Sarajevo's siege and the snipers' reign was the first opportunity in four years to make a journey to their homes in the suburbs.

It was also a chance to visit relatives after years of separation. Crowds would form at the Brotherhood and Unity Bridge to cross from Sarajevo to the previously inaccessible suburb of Grbavica.
