Why is photojournalism failing? The reasons are various, many a reflection of wider problems in media and the cultures that spawn them. The following is an attempt to briefly describe some of the central issues relating to the erosion of photojournalism’s power and credibility. It is this erosion which many will argue, pointing to the medium’s simplified version of world events combined with its overbearing hubris, is overdue. In any case, it is this essential calling into question of photojournalism that provides the solutions to its betterment as well.
