19 April
After days of trying to get back into Serbia, today we met with a resounding
NO. For the third time we drove to the border at Kumanovo, walked across
to the Serb police control, and this time they took our passports and
spent ten minutes pouring over them, getting our hopes up. Then one fellow
told us, again, no. Carlotta went through her whole spiel in Russian,
how we're cleared by the ministries in Belgrade, how the embassy in Skopje
confirmed that our visas were still valid. The guy smirked and said, "no,
they're not." She said, "yes, they are." "No, they're
not," he repeated, smiling, and pointed to the passports. We opened
them and saw gigantic ANNULE stamps on our visas. So it's back to square
one, a total hose job through and through.
