4. Solutions

Selective empathy:

It is impossible to throw a mass of intense images at people and expect a meaningful response. A publication that gives the reader a responsible overview, then allows the reader to pursue that which is of more interest, serves everyone’s needs more thoughtfully. Of course, should the editors of a publication find that certain subjects are of utmost importance then there are numerous strategies of presentation, including design, image selection, text, sound, etc., that can be utilized to impress upon the reader the need to become acquainted with this subject.
The Web also allows readers to form interest groups so that every member, no matter where they are located in the world, can inform the others as to important stories according to their own specific specialties and areas of knowledge. A problem with non-human “intelligent agents” is that they search by keyword or other labels that do not usually prioritize the available material in a useful way.
